Wellness plan & Self-Care

With every improvement behind it are the steps being taken towards goals and ultimately a plan of where you want to go and who you want to be. Where you want to end up in life. The plane analogy of always putting the mask on yourself first before anyone else never made sense to me until I started down this journey of becoming a counselor.

I believe that in order to hold space for others, I must also nurture myself. Healing is not a destination, but rather an ongoing journey that never ends. To some that may seem daunting and scary, but what would happen if we were fully healed and everything was just easy? There would be no purpose nor growth, one cannot grow without being challenged.

Here are some ways in which I care for my own well-being because it’s not all relaxation and baths.

Herbal Exploration - Teas, tinctures, healing remedies.

Movement and Body Connection - I try to maintain movement and exercise and yoga. I also utilize somatic practices to help keep me connected to my own body and release tension from the struggles of every day life.

Ongoing Education - I am never done learning. I listen to audiobooks on my way to work in the morning and make sure to leave time before bed to read a chapter a day of a book. I sign up for conferences and courses that will help me develop my skills.

Creative Expression - Utilizing art, music and other creative outlets such as writing to help process emotions, express myself and even learn more about myself and others.

Rest & Reflection - I make time for journaling, meditation, moments of silence to recharge and reflect on myself, my work and my actions. I ensure to reflect on my values and realigning them if need be.

Therapy & Support - I don’t just preach about how great therapy is, I live it too. I seek out support when I know I need it and even when I don’t think I need it, because it is easy to get lost.

My wellness plan is always evolving, just like I am. By honoring my own journey, I can show up more authentically, compassionately and fully for others.
